Learn About Mindfulness

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is paying attention, intentionally, to your moment-to-moment experience, without judgement. It’s a simple yet powerful way to bring more awareness to your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings.

The goal of mindfulness isn’t to “clear the mind” or “control your thoughts”, but to notice what arises, within and outside of us, with openness and curiosity. This gives us the ability to respond, rather than react, to our experiences.

You can cultivate mindfulness by focusing on your breath, noticing body sensations, or observing your thoughts as they come and go.

What are the Benefits of Mindfulness?

Research shows that practicing mindfulness can have positive benefits, especially for students:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Improves focus, memory, and cognitive flexibility
  • Supports emotional well-being
  • Enhaces sleep, self-care, and quality of relationships

"When you look at the brains of meditators, the areas related to attention, learning, and compassion grow bigger and stronger. It's called cortical thickening: the growth of new neurons in response to repeated practice. What we practice grows stronger. - Daniel Goleman, Psychologist and author of Emotional Intelligence
